Shirring your own fabric.

Ideal to make a dress either

for all around your body  front and back or just the back
 your choice.

sample #1
Set your stitch length to approx  #4 the shorter the length the less it gathers the longer the length the more it gathers.

Thread your top thread on your machine as normal use a contrast colour or the background colour.

Wind your bobbin with the Shirring elastic, you must do this by hand  and stretch the elastic tightly when winding.

Put bobbin in machine [or in bobbin case] in your usual way

sample#1
Stitch lines as per sample #1 as you can see it doesn't  gather up much with one row of stitching.  I stitch back and forwards at beginning and end of each row to hold the thread.

sample #2

The closer your lines are together the more elasticated it will be.  As you stitch try and stitch in straight lines using the line you have stitched before as your guide

sample #3
See #3  You can see the shirred effect taking shape. Keep shirring until it reaches the desired length.  You can use this to make a top, dress or even the top of a skirt.  Just hem top and bottom as normal. Stitch down side and make into a tube. Add straps for tops/either in same fabric or a ribbon.  Simples
